It was a truly awful match - the only excitement being Hashi's superb 25 yard lob after 5 minutes and then 2 huge brawls on the 98th minute and at the final whistle. The rest was a tale of dreadful defending, insipid attacking play, overhit and underhit passes, shanks and an amazing consistency to be unable to find a colleague with a pass or header.
It was a bitty first half, and we just got worse in the 2nd half BUT , thanks mainly to Hoppy, we hung on. LG will be desperately disappointed not to have gained a point.
There was a bizarre moment where our sub was subbed for the perpetually ineffectual Josh and then shortly after an incident where it appeared we seemed to have 3 players go down injured all at the same time.
I still don't know what all the brawls were about, but it did show something about the team spirit that nearly everyone piled in !
Motm definitely Hoppy. Woody tried to keep his head whilst all around him were losing theirs. Kamil battled manfully ,but nothing went his way, and I think that is probably true for many others (even the right back Liam, who I have really enjoyed watching so far, didn't seem quite at the same level).
Thought Kone when he came on provided a bit of vigour and enthusiasm n did some good things.
Anyway, they say the sign of a decent team is the ability to win when not playing well, so hopefully this bodes well!
5th in the league , which is a great start; a week off is probably not a bad thing, week to rest and recover from the injuries n a chance for this new team to get even more acquainted with each other
